MCI is recognized as a “Transforming school” in evaluation of societal impact

As an educational institution focusing on global connections and local impact, MCI fosters education for responsible management and sustainable development across its programs. MCI joined the international initiative UN PRME in 2011. PRME stands for Principles for Responsible Management Education and is a network for business schools worldwide, founded in 2007 by the UN Global Compact Office, the United Nation’s industry network for sustainable and responsible leadership.

Focussing on business education, PRME aims at addressing the topics of purpose, inclusive prosperity and thriving ecosystems. This can only be reached if students learn that organizational responsibility and accountability to both society and environment are a crucial element of entrepreneurship. Being an active member of PRME, MCI has been working on implementing the seven PRME principles of Purpose, Values, Teach, Research, Partner. Practice, and Share in its study programs.

The MCI Center for Responsible Management & Social Impact works on various activities to realize its mission of supporting and promoting education and action for Responsibility, Sustainability & Ethics to drive societal impact and engagement. This includes the integration of SDGs into both teaching and research activities, the MCI Sustainability Week, MCI Community Projects and Responsible Management Learning offers for all students.

All of these efforts seem to pay off now. In the newly released Positive Impact Rating 2025 (PIR), MCI has been recognized as a “Transforming School,” earning Level 4 out of 5. PIR is an annually published international university comparison, which evaluates the societal impact of business schools from the students’ perspective. Unlike traditional rankings, the PIR assesses how institutions contribute to solving societal challenges – through responsible teaching, sustainable practices, transparent governance, and opportunities for student participation. In 2025, 86 business school worldwide from 30 countries got evaluated by 17,000 students. Schools achieving Level 4 status demonstrate a deeply embedded impact orientation, with measurable progress in embedding ecological, social, and economic sustainability in research, teaching, and daily academic life. MCI thus stands out as an example on how international universities can take responsibility and make sure that students are prepared for solving global challenges and actively shaping our future.

The Enricher hubs project is one example how MCI helps address international challenges by offering a train-the-trainer program for sustainability in the tourism industry in Georgia and Moldova. The knowledge shared with the participants of the program will now be conveyed to students and tourism stakeholders by the establishment of the Green Tourism Hubs at each of the six universities.
