As part of the project “Development of green tourism concepts through training” (ENRICHER hubs – project) ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE-STRAND-2t, Comrat State University is developing the concept of an Ecotourism Hub, the official opening of which is scheduled for November 2025. The Hub will become an educational and practice-oriented platform for students, entrepreneurs, and local communities. Its activities will focus on sustainable tourism, preservation of natural heritage, and the promotion of green initiatives in Gagauzia. Planned activities include trainings, research projects, and partnership events aimed at building a modern tourism ecosystem and generating innovative ideas for the development of the region.
The importance of these initiatives was reaffirmed on September 9, 2025, during the launch of the IMPACT UTA Gagauzia program in Comrat. The program is implemented by the Estonian International Development Center (ESTDEV) in cooperation with Civitta and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. Its goal is to equip local authorities, businesses, civil society, and educational institutions of Gagauzia with knowledge and tools to prepare and implement projects according to European Union standards.
The first event of the program – the Ideathon – gathered representatives of authorities, businesses, universities, and civil society. Together they identified the key needs of the region and proposed project ideas. Professor of the Department of Economics, Comrat University (Moldova), Alla Levitskaia moderated the process of idea generation, highlighting the prospects for tourism development and the importance of modern interaction between the university and employers. Dr. Ludmila Fedotova, coordinator from Comrat State University of the project “ENRICHER hubs” Designing Green Tourism Concepts Through Learning (Development of concepts of green tourism through learning) ENRICHER HUBS – PROJECT ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE-STRAND-2, presented the concept of the Ecotourism Hub. She emphasized that the Ecotourism Hub is expected to serve as a community platform. Local schools, youth organizations, and community groups will be able to use its resources and participate in activities. This will allow the Hub to contribute not only to university education, but also to raising environmental awareness among the wider population and to strengthening cooperation between education, business, and society.
